Carrion Retrievers

A giant insectoid creature that flies across all of Legere, carrion retrievers (also known as bloodbuzzers or blitzflies) scoured Legere for fresh corpses to scavenge. They were tied to the living flesh fields of the Festerplains, actively depositing their scavenged flesh into it to promote its growth. These dog-sized insect-like monsters were infamously common around the aftermath of battle, swooping down upon the freshly fallen. They used their unique jaw-proboscis combo to strip the flesh off of corpses’ bones, but not before slurping up as much internal fluid as they could. Carrion retrievers would consume flesh until they were full, their abdomens capable of swelling up to 10 times the normal size. Once full internally, they would continue to scavenge corpses, using the long hairs covering their limbs and underside to hold flesh that they scrape off onto themselves. Lastly, they would carry a whole corpse with their limbs. Once fully loaded up, the engorged, flesh-covered, corpse carrying bloodbuzzer would fly back to the Festerplains to deposit its carmine treasures before flying back out again.

These scavengers were normally pink coloured, and secreted a slimy, mucus-like substance to aid with sticking scavenged flesh to their bodies. The wet-looking bodies of these insects had the appearance of being raw meat.

Carrion retrievers were known to have a terribly rancid smell, as there was always a bountiful amount of rotting flesh stuck in the crevices of their bodies.
